Sample Cutter

Sample Cutter for the Taber Rotary Abraser. A heavy-duyt blade cuts a 4.2-inch diameter specimen and the punch creates a precise 1/4 inch center hole.

The Taber® Sample Cutter Model 5000 is a manual tool specifically designed to cut circular samples of 107 mm (4.2 inches) in diameter with a 6.5 mm center hole, facilitating preparation for testing on the Taber Rotary Abraser or for scratch and shear testing.

Thanks to its large industrial cutting blade and internal thread system, force is applied evenly, ensuring precise and consistent cuts even on complex materials. With a single operation, you'll obtain samples ready for testing with the Taber Abraser, free from deformation or irregular edges. The device is equipped with integrated safety systems that protect the user during operation, making the preparation process not only fast and efficient but also safe.

This sample cutter for abraser is compatible with a wide range of materials, making it a versatile and reliable solution for any laboratory.

Ideal for flexible materials

This sample cutter is perfect for materials such as textiles, vinyls, rubber, and other flexible substrates. (The blades allow work on a wide variety of samples including paper, cardboard, leather, vinyl, linoleum, carpet, textile, and thin metals).

  • Precise 107 mm diameter cut.
  • 6.5 mm center hole created through a spring-actuated clutch lever system.
  • Easy to use and fully manual – no electrical power required.

To prevent samples from wrinkling or deforming during testing:

  • Use mounting cards (S-36 square or S-36-1 round).
  • Employ the holding ring to secure them properly.

Rigid materials

For sheets or plates, the cut should be made with a suitable tool depending on the type of material. Recommendations:

  • 100 mm sample with a 6.5 mm center hole.
  • Recommended thickness: 6.5 mm.
  • With S-21 extension nut: up to 12.7 mm (requires a 9.5 mm hole).
  • For tests up to 40 mm thickness: 13 mm hole and arm adjustment required.

Sample cleaning and conditioning

  • Remove dirt, grease, or fingerprints using a soft cloth or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Condition the samples for at least 24 hours before testing (48 hours for organic materials).
  • Maintain standard laboratory conditions: 23 ±2°C and 50 ±5% RH.
