Impact tester for paint

Impact tester for coatings on metal bases. Measures resistance to shock, adhesion, cracking, and flexibility. Complies with ISO, DIN, ASTM standards.

The NK Impact Tester by NEURTEK allows measuring the impact resistance, adhesion and flexibility of coatings with precision, complying with ASTM and ISO standards.

The impact tester is a laboratory tool designed to perform impact tests on coatings, paints and enamels, allowing the analysis of shock resistance, adhesion and flexibility of the material with total precision.

Its robust, versatile and internationally compliant design makes it an essential piece of equipment for quality control and product development in industrial and research sectors.

What is an impact tester and what is it used for?

An impact tester is a mechanical testing instrument that makes it possible to evaluate how a coating responds when struck by a controlled mass. With this test, defects such as the following can be detected:

  • Cracks or chipping after the impact.
  • Adhesion problems between paint and substrate.
  • Lack of curing or excessive rigidity.
  • Level of resistance and flexibility of the coating.

How does the impact test work?

The procedure consists of dropping a mass with a semi-spherical punch from a determined height onto the coated panel. Depending on the method used, the following can be performed:

  • Direct test: The impact is applied to the painted side, directly observing possible damage or loss of adhesion.
  • Indirect test: The blow is produced from the back of the panel, analyzing the coating’s ability to deform without fracturing.

Both methods are included in the main international standards (ASTM, ISO, UNE) and allow both the weight and the impact height to be varied in order to determine the coating’s resistance limit.

Advantages of the NK Impact Tester by NEURTEK

  • Fast, visual and repeatable results.
  • Configurable according to standard or type of material.
  • Manufactured with robust and durable materials.
  • Ideal for quality control laboratories and R&D centers.
  • Allows accurate determination of the coating’s cracking point.

What is included?

The NEURTEK impact tester includes:

  • Base with stable support.
  • Graduated guide column for height adjustment.

It easily adapts to various technical configurations and is supplied with accessories according to the standard to be complied with (see downloadable data sheet).

Frequently asked questions about the NEURTEK Impact Tester

What exactly does the NK Impact Tester by NEURTEK measure?
It evaluates the impact resistance, adhesion, flexibility and curing of coatings applied on different substrates.

Can it be used on any type of paint?
Yes, it is suitable for paints, enamels, varnishes and industrial coatings, both on metal and on plastic or glass.

What is the difference between the direct and indirect test?
The direct one hits the painted surface; the indirect one does so from the rear side to check deformation without breaking.

Does it comply with international standards?
Yes, it complies with the main impact testing standards ASTM D2794, ISO 6272, UNE 48285, among others.
