Powder Checker, powder Comb

This simple, easy-to-use gage measures the thickness of applied dry coating powder...before it´s been cured!

The Defelsko powder coating comb allows measurement of powder thickness before curing, ensuring proper application and avoiding unnecessary rework. Compatible with metal, plastic, wood, and glass.

Ensure correct powder thickness application before curing with the Defelsko powder coating comb. Avoid unnecessary rework and guarantee coating integrity from the first application.

What Is the Defelsko Comb?

The powder coating comb allows quick and accurate measurement of coating thickness before the powder cures. Its robust and precise design ensures reliable readings on multiple surfaces and materials such as metal, plastic, wood, and glass.

Key Features

  • Versatility: Works on parts of various shapes and sizes. Ideal for line setup and quality control.
  • Accuracy: Aluminum gauge with ±5 µm (±0.0002 inches) tolerance.
  • Practicality: Easy to carry; perfect size for a shirt pocket. Available in microns or mils.
  • Rugged construction: Side ridges on the teeth keep the comb perpendicular to the surface. Protective pouch included.

Available Models

Model Height (Tooth 1) Height (Tooth 2) Height (Tooth 3) Height (Tooth 4)
Model 4 (µm) 75 150 225 300
Model 5 (µm) 250 375 500 625
Model 6 (µm) 500 750 1000 1250

How It Works?

  1. Place the comb perpendicular to the dry powder, ensuring the side tabs rest firmly on the substrate.
  2. Drag the comb along at least 1 cm across the coated surface.
  3. Determine the thickness: the powder sticks to the highest tooth that leaves a mark and does not stick to the next tooth.

Example: If the 75 µm and 150 µm teeth leave powder adhered but the 225 µm tooth does not, the uncured powder thickness is between 150 and 225 µm.

Combing operation

*Note: Most powders cure to roughly 50% of their dry thickness. Comb marks may slightly affect the cured film.

Benefits

  • Prevents rework and errors on the production line.
  • Ensures quality and consistency of the cured film thickness.
  • Compatible with various materials and part shapes.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can it be used on plastic and glass?
Yes, the Defelsko comb works on metal, plastic, wood, glass, and other substrates.

Does the comb need calibration?
No, the comb is manufactured with a ±5 µm tolerance and comes ready to use with a protective pouch.

How do I interpret the tooth marks?
The powder thickness corresponds to the highest tooth with adhered powder and the next tooth without powder.
